Moore Old Signs and Antiques – An Unexpected Opportunity to Open A Storefront
When Randy and his wife, Renell, moved to Crowley, Texas on April 12, 2019, they had not planned to open an antiques shop. Randy had had an antiques booth in different antique malls over the years. Randy opened his first booth in 2007 inside Wall Street Antiques in Midland, Texas, where he and Renell grew up.
Randy had also set up as a vendor at Round Top Hill Antiques Show during the Round Top Antiques Fair from 2005 to 2016. This huge antiques extravaganza is located near the midpoint between Houston and Austin, Texas. It takes place over three weeks that end the first weekend of April and October each year. Randy and Renell brought 3 storage buildings full of antiques merchandise with them during the move to Crowley. When the opportunity to rent a 1500-square foot store, located in a strip mall at 10134 North Crowley Road, presented itself unexpectedly, it appeared to be the perfect opportunity. The storefront was located next to the well-established and popular, His and Hers Antiques Mall. This mall has more than 100 vendors. Randy and Renell decided that rather than continue to pay storage on several buildings, it made sense to open a storefront.
The late spring and summer of 2019 was spent unpacking, cleaning and organizing hundreds of containers of vintage and antiques items. Moore Old Signs and Antiques opened June 18, 2019.
Much of the merchandise currently in the store was purchased from two avid collectors. The first one had a passion to shop estate and garage sales, auctions and antique shows in the Warrenton, Texas area. With an eye for authentic vintage and antiques, this collector had storage containers full of hundreds, if not thousands of hand-picked items, collected over 30 years. Many of these items are on display and now for sale at Moore Old Signs and Antiques.
These unique and hard to find items include a lot of oil and gas memorabilia, signs and oil cans, antique butter churns, soda pop memorabilia, knives, crocks, enamel ware, toys, Pyrex dishes, western antique and vintage saddles, and spittoons.
The second collector had a collection of antique/vintage egg, cotton, fur, feed, gold and postal scales, Randy purchased in 2015. This 92-year-old collector was downsizing and moving to assisted living.
Opening Moore Old Signs & Antiques was also an opportunity that went hand in hand with the comprehensive Texas Antique Shop and Event Directory Randy and Renell had been working on creating since August of 2017.
